The Spring Cup in the Esports Racing League (ERL) by VCO has a winner. In the Masters event for the twelve best teams, the Unicorns of Love prevailed on the sim platform Assetto Corsa Competizione.
Tobias Pfeffer, Tobias Gronewald and Michael Tauscher lived up to their role as favourites and secured prize money of 3,500 US dollars. They came out on top in a thrilling finale against Veloce Esports. The second-placed team took home 2,000 US dollars.
The Unicorns of Love, who had won every VCO event of the season thus far on the Assetto Corsa Competizione platform, had no problems in qualification on their way to the finale. Veloce Esports disposed of reigning ERWC champions Team Redline in the semi-final.
After one final victory for each team, the third race played the decisive role in determining the overall winner of the ERL Spring Cup – and a crash on turn one put the Unicorns of Love under pressure. However, the favourites held their nerve to record the race win and a fourth place, precisely the results they required.
The fourth semi-final team alongside Unicorns of Love, Veloce Esports and Redline was R8G Esports, while Arnage Competition, YAS HEAT, Williams Esports and Team Fordzilla made it as far as the quarter-finals. The following teams were knocked out in round one: BS+COMPETITION, Burst Esport, TRITON Racing and the Jean Alesi Esports Academy.
Reactions from the winners:
Tobias Pfeffer (Unicorns of Love): “That was a very intense finale with very strong opponents. Veloce Esports were very fast, there was contact now and again and things got a bit dirty sometimes. But, all in all, it was superb. I had so much fun!”
Tobias Gronewald (Unicorns of Love): “To be honest, I had expected there to be a crash at turn one in the finale. That has a lot to do with the race format. We are all so close together that everyone tries to use any gap, however small. I am knackered – but also happy that we managed to win this time.”
Michael Tauscher (Unicorns of Love): “It got chaotic at turn one in the final race. It felt like the entire race was crazy. After the crash, I concentrated on not making any mistakes and ensuring that the team didn’t get any penalty points. I managed to do that and I am very pleased about this.“
